I watched the Super Bowl this year and despite the uneventful game the commercials are always good. Every year I love watching them. Companies spend millions of dollars to get a spot and only the best get played. This year I had several favorite videos.
One of them was Amazon- Not Everything Makes the Cut. In this video several Amazon employees are talking about their product amazon Alexa, more specifically some of the devices Alexa did not work well in. one product they tried to put Alexa in was a toothbrush. It didn’t work because the speaker was inside your mouth when you were brushing your teeth. Another device was the dog collar. The commercial showed Harrison Fords dog barking and ordering large amounts of dog food. Harrison was not happy but couldn’t catch the dog to stop him from ordering it. And the end of the commercial you see a delivery guy bringing a pallet of dog food to Harrison fords door.
I liked this video because it comically portrayed Amazon Alexa devices that failed. I didn’t like that they weren’t promoting Amazon Alexa they were just making fun of it. Despite that I know the purpose of the ad was to show consumers that only the funniest things make it to the customer. Things that provide value to the customer, and actually work.
I also really enjoyed the Colgate- Close Taker commercial. This Colgate ad depicted a man working at an office who was a close talker. He would stand uncomfortable close to people while talking. I’m sure everyone knows a close talker, someone who gets a little too far into your personal space while talking to you. I can name a few, which is why I though this commercial was especially funny.
I liked this commercial because it was different than just a man or woman with unnaturally white teeth just brushing with their brand of toothpaste. It brought a real thing that people experience everyday into the ad and made it funny, while still making their product look good. I thought it was funny because everyone knows someone who does it. The main purpose was to show people that being a close talker isn’t a bad thing as long as you use Colgate’s toothpaste. I think they did a great job at this. You should feel confident that your breath won’t smell so bad that you need to avoid talking to people.
